Dozens snowboarders will before long be finding their ski gear and dashing off hunting for the heaviest snow conditions. And undoubtedly the affect from your carbon footprint will be close to as far down the list of holiday essentials as a Christmas cracker after xmas. Merely last year, a late snowfall was in the newspaper headlines and holidaymakers were panicky about the smattering of snow disappearing nearly as soon as they put down.
Skiing business Chalet 1802, placed at the foot of Mount Blanc in Chamonix Haute Savoie France in the French Alps, is one of the only independent firms to go carbon neutral and give skiers an environmentally friendly choice whilst organising their skiing trip. Chalet1802 proprietor JACINTA stated: Last winter was quite a shock with the warmest winter in fifty five yrs in the French Alps. Mountain ski areas like Meribel, La Plagne and Risoul lacked clients. It was balmy and the snow didnt settle so a lot of the early skiing season in the Alps was uneven. We determined to go carbon neutral to assist in the preservation the skiing resort.
JACINTA said: We’re not trying to dictate to holiday makers but I feel its of import to grant the clients the option without increasing the price of the holiday. When they book with us and holidays in our skiing chalet they can further off-set their carbon footprint and we take in the additional prices. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub – clients want opulence but not at the expense of the environment, so we viewed means of lessening the affect of a guest traveling over here for a ski holiday.”
The firm have also linked up with organisation Climate Care, who deals with global warming by providing carbon dioxide deductions for people and firms.
