Snowboarders and skiers should expect ski holidays to cost up to 18 percent more for skiing vacations this coming winter as chalet operators reduce the amount of holidays available.

Peak season trips will be particularly expensive but even at other dates there will be hardly any large discounts on vacations.

Snowboarding insiders say that with ski companies reducing beds by up to 19 per cent holiday costs remain unlikely to come down.

Bookings are even this early greater than the availability for Feb half-term that for the second consecutive year occur on the same week for most the schools in England.

The price increases coupled with a reduction in the no. of trips comes after a particularly good winter season for skiers with deep snowfall throughout France.

The collapse of the pound sterling against the dollar obliterated profits and led to several smaller ski operators in the red.

Things look better for vacationers prepared to go on vacation in January or Mar, as costs will increase on average 16 % on average, instead of 26 % for peak season weeks.

Chamonix travel companies, chalets and lift companies are starting to realise that they provide operators reductions or special deals. Wise holidaymakers will pay for as many add ons ” such as lift passes and rental ” in sterling ahead of leaving home.
