With so many people having problems digesting gluten, it can be difficult to plan a meal that everyone can enjoy. Over the years we have become so accustom to having wheat breads or white breads of some sort served with our meals that it has become second nature. Now with the life changes of so many, it is time to make sure we can make a nice happy meal that everyone will love.
If you plan on serving bread with your meal, look into finding rice flour, most health food stores do carry it. The price unfortunately is significantly higher than normal flour, but in the long run it is worth it. This is only if you prefer to make the bread yourself. If you choose to find a loaf of rice bread, a health food store is your best option, they will normally carry a small selection of the breads.
Now onto the main courses. Make it a meat and potatoes night. Reach in that fridge grab up some nice chicken breasts to grill, some fresh vegetables and how about a nice big baked potato for everyone. The potato is rich in starch and can be filling but, won’t cause any problems what so ever for your guest. Don’t forget to grab the fixings. You can have sour cream, chopped green onions or chives. The sky is the limit here.
Now on to dessert. How about a nice batch of fresh baked Chocolate Chip Cookies. Yes, you read that right. Reach for that rice flour once again. Cookies can be made with rice flour and work quite nicely. You can use a normal recipe substituting the regular flour for the rice flour. Bake as normal, hot fresh cookies anyone.
When cooking gluten free, you just have to make simple changes to make a big difference. By avoiding wheat flours and substituting in rice flour, everyone can still have a very enjoyable meal.
